Q: What is Karer Home?
A: Karer Home is a simple, private home monitoring system that helps carers - family, friends or well intentioned neighbours, stay connected to older loved ones living independently. It uses discreet sensors and a mobile app to alert a carer to changes, risks or inactivity, without cameras, microphones, or intrusive surveillance.
Q: Who is Karer Home for?
A: It’s designed for older adults who live on their own, and for the family members who want peace of mind knowing everything is okay at home, without being overbearing or invasive.
Q: Does it require a subscription?
A: No. There’s a one-time cost, and that’s it. Optional support packages (e.g. for setup help or battery replacement) are available but not required.
How it Works
Q: What does the system include?
A: Karer Home includes six key components:
- SOS panic button – for immediate help
- Door sensor – monitors key entrances
- Motion/inactivity sensor – tracks movement or prolonged stillness
- Water leak detector – warns of leaks or flooding
- Temperature/humidity sensor – keeps the home safe and comfortable
- Smoke & CO sensor – alerts to fire or air quality hazards
Q: How does it send alerts?
A: All sensors connect wirelessly to a Karer Homeplug device, which uses your home Wi-Fi to send real-time alerts to the Karer mobile app on your phone.
Q: What does the app show me?
A: The app shows current sensor status, alerts (e.g. “no movement for 3 hours”), temperature trends, and battery status. You’ll also receive instant notifications for things like a triggered SOS button or water leak.
Privacy and Safety
Q: Are there any cameras or microphones?
A: No. Karer Home does not use any cameras or microphones. We believe privacy and dignity come first.
Q: Can I monitor everything live?
A: You’ll get real-time updates and alerts on your phone if you set that option up, but we don’t offer live feeds or surveillance. This isn’t about spying, it’s about peace of mind and safety.
Q: What if my loved one presses the SOS button?
A: You’ll receive an immediate alert on your phone, along with the time it was pressed and confirmation that the signal got through.
Installation and Support
Q: How hard is it to install?
A: It’s very simple. Most components stick to surfaces using removable pads or screws, and we guide you step by step through the app. Or you can opt for a professional setup.
Q: What support options are available?
A: You can choose optional 1 or 3-month support packages that include:
- Help with setup or troubleshooting
- Ongoing support
- Battery replacement assistance
Q: What happens if the Wi-Fi goes down?
A: The system will try to reconnect automatically. Alerts may be delayed until Wi-Fi is restored, but all sensors continue monitoring locally in the meantime.
Q: Can you install my Karer Home Kit for me?
A: We are trialling a home install service, but it is currently limited to an area in East Devon and Dorset. If you select the home install option and add it to your shopping basket, on entering the post code of the install location, you will be shown the option to add home installation. If you are outside of our trial area, unfortunately you will not be able to install at your location at this time. Please do contact us by email to check though.
