At Karer, we design with care for people, and for the planet. We believe that home technology should be simple, sustainable, and low impact. Every part of the Karer Home Kit from the materials we choose to the packaging we send has been carefully considered to reduce waste, avoid harmful components, and encourage long term use, repair, and recycling.

We know this is just one small step, but we believe small things matter and that caring for each other shouldn’t come at the expense of caring for the environment.

Plastic free packaging
Each sensor is wrapped in a plain, unbleached brown paper bag. These bags serve a dual purpose: they protect the devices during transit, and they’re labelled to help you identify each sensor during setup. We’ve deliberately avoided plastic trays, foams, glossy coatings, and bleached cardboard. All packaging is made entirely from recyclable paper and card and can be put straight into your household recycling. We discard any shipping or internal packaging on your behalf before dispatch so you receive only what’s needed.

Standard batteries, included
Every Karer device is powered by ordinary AA or AAA batteries nothing built in, nothing custom, and nothing sealed. Batteries are included in your kit and ready to go. We’ve chosen this approach to keep things simple and safe:

  • Replacements are easy to find
  • Devices last longer
  • You won’t need tools or specialist knowledge to maintain them
  • And when the time comes, used batteries can be recycled through standard local schemes

Built in batteries may seem convenient, but they often mean the whole device is thrown away when the battery fails. That’s not how we do things.

No lithium
None of our devices use lithium batteries. Lithium is widely used in electronics, but it comes with higher environmental impact, safety considerations, and more complicated disposal rules. By avoiding lithium, we help reduce risk and make responsible recycling easier for you and for us.

Return and recycle
If you ever decide you no longer need your Karer sensors, we offer a return service for responsible disposal. Just contact us and we’ll give you instructions for sending devices back. We dismantle and dispose of them safely, prioritising repair and component reuse wherever possible, and recycling where not.

Low waste, long life
Karer is designed for longevity, not landfill. That means:
